“The Elfacares Foundation Dreams & Themes End-of-Year Project is not just a celebration; it’s a testament to the power of community, philanthropy, and the positive change we can bring when we come together. Our mission is to instill joy, inspire dreams, and empower the next generation. The impact of this event goes beyond the smiles on the children’s faces; it resonates in the shared moments of unity and the collective efforts that make a lasting difference” he said.

Philanthropy Education Seminar: Empowering Minds and Hearts

One of the key objectives for this year’s celebration was to instill in our kids and stakeholders the spirit of philanthropy. Recognizing that we often find ourselves on the receiving end, we aimed to empower our community with the knowledge and understanding of the joy and impact of giving. Over two months, from November to December 2023, we embarked on an extensive education and sensitization campaign, fostering a culture of philanthropy among our stakeholders, which includes the children in our various programs.

Environmental Sustainability Initiatives: Cleaning Up for a Brighter Future

The Dreams & Themes End-of-Year Party project extended beyond the day of celebration. We launched a three-month Environmental Sustainability Initiatives campaign, incorporating cleanup exercises, sustainable cooking, and community engagement. With a focus on environmental preservation, these initiatives aimed to beautify our communities and raise awareness about the importance of sustaining our surroundings. Bi-weekly cleanup exercises held every Saturday from October to December saw the active participation of our community members and sponsors alike.

In the end, we successfully organized four community cleanup exercises in the Anumle Electoral Area, uniting our community in a shared commitment to preserving our environment.

The Christmas Party: Spreading Joy, Recognizing Achievements

On December 17th, 2023, the grand culmination of our efforts took place at the Kappa 7 Astro Turf. Over 1,000 attendees, including children from our programs and partner schools, joined us for a day filled with laughter, engaging activities, thrilling games, captivating performances, and delicious treats. The event embodied our commitment to community and philanthropy, providing gifts of books and watches for 700 children and recognizing outstanding achievements through our awards ceremony.

Funding & Support

Despite facing challenges and falling slightly shy of our fundraising goal, the collective support of past donors, volunteers, parents, and individual donors played a pivotal role in the success of the project. The $6,659 raised showcased the strength of our community’s commitment to uplifting its members.

Preparations

Engaging teachers, past and present volunteers, and partnering with sponsors, we ensured the seamless execution of the celebration. Their contributions, alongside the community’s enthusiasm, added to the vibrancy of the event.

Awards

The Elfacares Foundation Dreams & Themes End-of-Year Party doubled as an awards ceremony, recognizing deserving children across various programs. We awarded kids in all our projects; Golf & Goal, Ball & Brain Boys and Girls, Fit4Fun, Happy Art Club, Graphic Design, Basic Computing, Literacy Class, Environmental Club, Dzidefo Girls Club, Drum, Dance & Dream etc. Julienne Afi Amezado’s consecutive win as the “Elfacares Foundation Personality of the Year ” highlighted her excellence in golf, academics, and extracurricular activities. This was as a result of her excellence in the year under review. 

• She traveled to Houston in the US to play in the Mack Champ Invitational
• Traveled to Hurghada in Egypt to feature in the Egyptian Junior Open
• Won the Best Female Junior Golfer in West Africa at the 10th Awa Ibraheem Junior Championship
• 1st Female Junior Golfer to play a Hole-in-One (And now among an honorary group of 11 Females to have ever played a Hole-in-One since the inception of the Achimota Golf Club in 1934
• Won the ticket to Represent Ghana at the 2024 World Junior Championship in Scotland
• Accumulated the best aggregate for a female student at the just ended BECE in Jerremite International School
• Best Drummer/Footballer

Performances

The stage came alive with magical performances by renowned artists like Gasmilla, Kudjoe Dave, and community acts like Mic Yorny and Cwame Guchie, enhancing the joyous atmosphere.

Special Recognition

Daily Food Limited specifically gave a generous donation of 15 boxes of Boss Baker biscuits, which contributed significantly to the success of our Elfacares Foundation Dreams & Themes End-of-Year project. 

Kasapreko Company Limited’s generous contributions significantly contributed to the event’s success. Their donation of 20 packs of bottled drinking water and 20 packs of non-alcoholic drinks was instrumental in ensuring the success of our Elfacares Foundation Dreams & Themes End-of-Year project. 

Miss Abena’s introduction and connection with Kasapreko Company Limited have been nothing short of a game-changer for us. The company’s donation of 20 packs of bottled drinking water and 20 packs of non-alcoholic drinks played a vital role in ensuring the success of our End-of-Year party. Through her thoughtful gesture of giving us bags of water, cartons of drinks, toilet papers, tissues, and all the supplies, she directly contributed to bringing joy and happiness to more than 700 children from the Anumle Electoral Area of Accra, Ghana.

On November 11th, 2023, our Anumle & Christian Village Communities Cleanup marked another milestone in our ongoing efforts. This initiative, nestled within our broader Dreams & Themes End-of-Year Project, is a testament to our commitment to making a tangible difference in our neighborhoods.

The cleanup was more than just sweeping streets and picking up litter; it was a collective effort involving over 100 children from our various programs, including the Environmental Club, Dzidefo Girls Club, Fit4Fun, and Happy Art Club. Partnering with our community schools like Victoria Solid Foundation School, Unity Baptist School, and Revere Basic School, we unified our forces for a cleaner, more vibrant community.

At the heart of our endeavors lies a simple yet powerful belief: the significance of serving one’s community. By involving these young minds in community service education, we aim to sow the seeds of responsibility and altruism early on. Beyond the immediate benefits to society, this fosters personal growth and character development in our participants.

Our journey doesn’t end here. We’re excited to announce the final cleanup in the entire Anumle Electoral Area on December 9th. This marks the culmination of this year’s cleanup exercises, setting the stage for an extraordinary Christmas party on December 17th.

Three exhilarating games graced the turf, each showcasing the passion and skill of our teams. The first match saw an exhilarating face-off between The German boys volunteer team and our Ball & Brain Under 11 boys team, culminating in a thrilling 10-7 victory for our determined Under 11 boys.

Following the high spirits of the first game, the field witnessed an awe-inspiring clash between The German Girls Volunteer team and our Ball & Brain Under 15 girls team. The girls exhibited sheer talent and teamwork, sealing a well-deserved 5-2 win for our Under 15 girls, captivating the audience with their prowess.

However, the pinnacle of the event arrived with the final game, a breathtaking showdown between our Ball & Brain Boys Under 8 team and our Ball & Brain Under 12 Girls team. In an intense battle, the Under 8 boys secured a nail-biting 1-0 victory, concluding the day with jubilant celebrations and camaraderie.

Chief Executive Officer Senyo Sosu, reiterated the importance of hosting such an event. Mr. Sosu mentioned that, “These games served as part of our continuous efforts to engage the kids in our programs as well as the international volunteers among us”. He also added that “the togetherness and unity of individuals from Ghana and the international front was evident for all to see”.

Beyond the scores and victories, the Freiwilligen Cup was a testament to the spirit of unity and inclusivity. The dedication of our German volunteers, who generously devoted their time and energy, created an environment brimming with joy and mutual respect. Their engagement with the children in our Ball & Brain project transcended cultural boundaries, fostering connections that extended far beyond the field.

Moreover, the event was not just about soccer; it was a platform to champion diversity and showcase the collective strength of our community. It served as a reminder that irrespective of age, gender, or background, coming together in pursuit of a common goal creates bonds that are unbreakable.

In the spirit of giving, the Freiwilligen Cup also became a catalyst for fundraising, successfully raising an outstanding $25 towards our upcoming End of Year Party for the children. By fostering a sense of responsibility and empowerment within our community, we aim to contribute to its growth and development, reducing the reliance on external funding and building a self-sustaining community.

A Triumph in West Africa

Afi Julienne Amezado’s victory in the Girls 14-15 years category at the 10th Awa Ibraheem Junior Golf Championship is nothing short of extraordinary. Her dedication, skill, and unyielding spirit have rightfully earned her the title of West Africa Female Junior Champion. This accomplishment is a testament to her relentless pursuit of excellence, and it reflects the high standards we set for our young golfers in the Golf & Goal program. After a grueling 54 holes, Amezado compiled a gross score of 249, 42 strokes over the course par. This impressive performance allowed her to secure the first position, earning her the championship trophy and a scholarship prize of N300,000.00 generously provided by the sponsor, Alhaji (Dr) Awa Ibraheem. Notably, Afi Amezado’s triumph was by a considerable margin, with the second-place winner, Blessing Adah, recording a score of 294 in contrast to Afi’s 249.

Founder & President of the Elfacares Foundation Organization, Raymond Amezado, commented on the comportment of the young golfers, saying, “The composure and dedication displayed by our junior golfers in Nigeria have been exemplary. This experience on an international level is invaluable and will serve as a stepping stone for their future endeavors. We are proud of their achievements and excited about what the future holds for them.”

The Journey to Nigeria

Recalling the journey of these promising golfers, the team was accompanied by the Founder & President of the Elfacares Foundation Organization, Raymond Amezado, the Senior Coach of our Golf & Goal project, John Kwashie, and Rudy Amezado, a dedicated volunteer in our women empowerment project. They embarked on their journey on Tuesday, October 17th, 2023, traveling by bus through Togo and Benin before finally reaching Nigeria.

Upon their arrival, the team was treated to a tour of various islands in Nigeria, immersing themselves in the rich culture and history of the host nation. They dedicated time to practice rounds, acclimating themselves to the course, and formally registered as participants for the competition.

In the competition, Afi Julienne Amezado and Prince Adjei featured in the Girls and Boys 14-15 years category, Rejoice Jagor and Ellen Amezado competed in the Girls 8-11 years category, and David Adenyo participated in the 8-11 years Boys category. Our young golfers displayed incredible skill, resilience, and determination throughout the championship.

John Kwashie, the Senior Coach of our Golf & Goal project, praised the performance of the children and shared his vision for their future. He said, “The kids put up a tremendous fight and displayed great potential. To take them to the next level, we need to focus on fine-tuning their skills and providing more opportunities for them to compete on the global stage. With dedication and continued support, these young golfers can reach even greater heights.”

An Ongoing Journey

The opportunity to compete in Nigeria has opened up new avenues for our young golfers. They have received invitations to participate in more competitions in Nigeria before the year’s end and in the upcoming year. This remarkable experience has not only elevated their skill but also broadened their horizons as international junior golfers.

Gratitude and Acknowledgment

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to the event organizers, the dedicated caddies, and the accommodating hotel staff who made their stay in Nigeria comfortable and memorable. One of the standout moments in our preparation for the grand Christmas party was the community clean-up event on Saturday, 14th October, 2023, which saw an exceptional turnout of more than 200 children, both boys and girls from our Ball & Brain project. The children’s active participation in this event was truly remarkable and heartwarming. The initiative, which took place in the Kissehman community, involved cleaning the market square, the area in and around the Kissehman Sports Complex, and two other major routes.

Chief Operating Officer, Selase Atsriku, expressed his delight, saying, “The participation and dedication displayed by these young minds in the clean-up event is truly inspiring. It’s a testament to their understanding of the importance of responsible environmental practices.”

This bi-weekly clean-up initiative will continue until December 9th, where we will culminate with a grand finale involving a guest artist and our major sponsor for this year’s activities. 

Chief Executive Officer, Senyo Sosu, commented, “This initiative is not just about cleaning our surroundings; it’s about nurturing a generation that understands the importance of caring for our environment and making positive contributions to our community.”

The Elfacares Foundation Organization through its “Elfacares Foundation Dreams & Themes End-of-Year Project” is also extending its cleaning efforts to the Anumle Electoral Area, encompassing the Christian Village Community, Anumle, Achimota College, and their surroundings. This expansion will be done in partnership with our community schools and the children in our program areas, fostering a sense of unity and collaboration.

Two of our young participants, Nana and Akosua, shared their thoughts on the day’s activities. Nana said, “I enjoyed cleaning the market square with my friends. It makes me happy to know we’re making our community cleaner.” Akosua added, “I’ve learned that we need to take care of our environment. It’s our home, and we should keep it clean.”

As we move forward, we are calling on all individuals and organizations to support our cleanup exercise and the upcoming Christmas Party. Our journey began earlier in the year with the launch of the second edition of “Operation 20K,” a school supply fundraiser with an ambitious goal of collecting 20,000 pieces of essential school supplies for the children ofthe Anumle Electoral Area. The need was clear, and the response was overwhelming. We reached out to local and international organizations, schools, individuals, and religious bodies, sharing our mission and seeking support. The outpouring of generosity was inspiring, with major donors like Colexio Manuel Peleteiro from Spain, Steve Wilson, the Vineyard Foundation, and the East Legon Football Academy stepping up to make a significant impact.

Chief Executive Officer of the Elfacares Foundation Organization, Senyo Sosu, expressed gratitude to all donors who made this possible and how excited he is that the organization continues to prioritize the needs of its community above everything else.

“I would like to most importantly thank Colexio Manuel Peleteiro for their major donation towards this school supply fundraiser project. I would also like to thank the Vineyard Foundation, Mr. Steve Wilson, the East Legon Football Academy and each and everyone who contributed towards this successful fundraiser. We couldn’t have done it without you all” Mr. Sosu said. 

He also added “As an organization with a mission to empower the youth of Africa with education, training and character – enabling them to act upon their future and enriching their local communities and Africa as a whole, we are excited to be the one organization that continues to come up with initiatives that helps curb the difficulties of parents in our communities.” 

While we fell short of our ambitious target, we successfully collected approximately 14,000 school supplies, including notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, rulers, crayons, and file folders. These supplies were distributed to over 300 children in our various programs with 200 more children expected to receive their share as this will accommodate students who are out of town due to the school break, as well as junior and senior high students who we haven’t given to yet, a substantial increase from the previous year, demonstrating the growing community engagement in our cause. Each child received a minimum of 20 books, with some receiving up to 25 books, tailored to their grade or class. The distribution took place at Unity Baptist School, where we witnessed the transformative power of community-driven initiatives.

The Elfacares Foundation Organization believes that education is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty, and Operation 20K embodies our commitment to this cause. We understand that challenges persist, but with the support of our donors and the dedication of our team, we are making strides towards a brighter future for the children of the Anumle Electoral Area. This initiative serves as a testament to the impact that a united community can have on young lives, nurturing dreams and potential with every book and supply placed into eager hands. As we look ahead, we have learned valuable lessons and are committed to early fundraising and engaging more local donors to ensure sustainability and continued community support.

We engaged some recipients of the school supplies who shared their excitement about the initiative.
Bernice Folly, a participant of our Dzidefo Girls’ Leadership Club said, “I am grateful to the Elfacares Foundation Organization for giving me these items (school supplies) as it will take the burden off my parents for the upcoming school year.”

Prince Adjei, a participant of our Golf & Goal project also alluded to Bernice’s excitement by sharing that, “I am very happy to have received these books, pens, and pencils and I cannot wait for the start of the new school year. Thank you Elfacares Foundation (Organization).”

The inauguration of this remarkable complex was made possible through the unwavering support of various partners and organizations, who share our commitment to education and community development. Generous Funding from Lions Club 67 Hamburg

The realization of this project was made possible through the generous funding support from Lions Club 67 Hamburg in Germany. Their commitment to education and their global perspective on community development have created an enduring legacy for the Anumle Electoral Area. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Lions Club 67 Hamburg for their invaluable contribution to our cause. We would also like to express our gratitude to Katharina Ute, a remarkable volunteer who played a pivotal role in connecting us with the Lions Club Hamburg 67. Katharina’s tireless efforts in raising funds to support our cause exemplify the power of individuals who are driven by the spirit of philanthropy and community development.

Founder, Raymond Amezado shared his thoughts on the occasion, stating, “Today, we celebrate not only bricks and mortar but the dreams and aspirations of our young learners. This complex embodies our commitment to providing quality education and equipping our youth with the skills they need to reach for the stars. It is a testament to the collective determination of our community and I want to thank the great team around me and I wouldn’t want to take all the glory on such an occasion.”

A Hub for Learning and Innovation

The classrooms within the complex have been meticulously designed to provide a conducive environment for a wide range of educational projects. The facility is equipped with cutting-edge resources, including state-of-the-art technology, to foster learning in areas such as drone piloting, graphic design, website design, literacy, and numeracy. It will serve as a hub for creativity, innovation, and knowledge-sharing, offering our youth the tools and opportunities they need to excel in an ever-evolving world.

In his speech, Mr. Senyo Sosu, CEO of our organization, expressed his concern over the number of kids in the Anumle Electoral Area who are unable to read and how this classroom complex which also serves as a literacy lab will contribute towards the reduction in low literacy rates.

“Today, as we celebrate the inauguration of our 2-Unit Classroom Complex, I would like to shed light on an essential aspect of our work that addresses a pressing need within our community. Our Literacy Lab, for instance, is dedicated to addressing a critical need in the Anumle Electoral Area. Extensive research has revealed that a significant majority of the children in this area face challenges in basic literacy skills – they cannot read or write. This revelation underscores the urgency of paying further attention to this crucial aspect of our mission,” Mr. Sosu said.

Symbolic Inauguration Ceremony

Following the inspiring speeches, a symbolic inauguration ceremony took place. Stakeholders who have played a pivotal role in this project, including the Assemblyman, partners from AFS, University of Ghana, AIESEC, and the CEO of the Elfacares Foundation Organization, came together to hold the scissors and cut the ribbon for the new classroom complex. This act symbolized the collective commitment to providing quality education and empowering our youth.

Exploring the Future of Learning

After the inauguration, attendees had the opportunity to explore the classrooms and witness firsthand the innovative STEM projects taking place within. From drone piloting to graphic design, basic computing, art projects, and math classes, the classrooms were abuzz with activity. It was a moment of pride for all those present to see our youth engaging with these exciting educational initiatives.

Anagli Cup Football Competition: A Display of Talent and Teamwork

On Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the Kissehman Sports Complex, the cheers of the crowd reverberated as the Ball & Brain Boys’ and Ball & Brain Girls’ teams battled it out in the thrilling “Anagli Cup Football Competition.” The event featured a series of exciting matches, with young talents from both sides exhibiting their skills and determination.

In the highlight of the tournament, the under-8 Ball & Brain Boys’ team faced off against the under-12 Ball & Brain Girls’ team. The young athletes showcased their passion for the game, with the Ball & Brain Girls’ team emerging victorious and securing the coveted trophy and medals. Similarly, in the under-10 category, the Ball & Brain Boys’ team claimed victory against the under-15 Ball & Brain Girls’ team, reinforcing their prowess on the field.

Raymond Amezado, the driving force behind Elfacares Foundation Organization, expressed his delight, saying, “These young athletes embody the spirit of dedication and teamwork that our organization stands for. It’s heartwarming to witness their enthusiasm and commitment to sports. And I feel so overwhelmed by the show of love and appreciation on this day as I celebrate my birthday.”

One of the participants, Kekeli, a member of the victorious Ball & Brain Girls’ Under-12 team, shared her excitement, stating, “Winning the Anagli Cup is not just about the trophy; it’s about coming together as a team and giving our best to make our coach (Raymond Amezado) proud. This experience has been unforgettable.”

Anagli Invitational Golf Tournament: Swinging to Success

The celebration continued on Monday, August 28, 2023, with the Anagli Invitational Golf Tournament at the Achimota Golf Club. The lush green landscape bore witness to a gathering of young golfers, each striving to conquer the course and etch their names in the records.

In the Boys’ seniors 5-hole category, Bismark Afatsawo’s exceptional score of 23 secured the first position, closely followed by Joseph Adenyo with a score of 24 on a par 21. Meanwhile, in the Girls’ seniors 5-hole category, Ellen Amezado and Afi Amezado demonstrated their skill, each achieving a score of 28, and claiming the first and second positions, respectively.

Reflecting on the event, Raymond Amezado shared, “Golf teaches us patience, precision, and perseverance. The participants today have exhibited these qualities admirably.”

The Juniors 2-hole category saw Blessing Korblam and Mawusi Amezado shine, securing the first and second positions, respectively. The presentation of medals and golf assisting items further added to the sense of achievement and celebration among the participants.

Blessing Korblam, the winner in the Juniors category, expressed her joy, stating, “Golf is both challenging and rewarding. I am grateful for the opportunity to showcase my skills and be part of this incredible event that honors our Founder and President.”

The celebrations weren’t just about competition; they were about fostering a sense of community and unity. Snacks and refreshments were shared, symbolizing the joy and togetherness that define the Elfacares Foundation Organization.

As the sun set on these exhilarating tournaments, the Elfacares Foundation Organization, under the visionary leadership of Raymond Amezado, continues to pave the way for young athletes to shine.
