On Thursday, June 6th, 2024, we had the honor of welcoming 18 student volunteers from around the world through our partnership with the University of Ghana International Programmes Office’s Ghana to the World 2024 (GTW) project. These enthusiastic volunteers hail from seven different countries: South Korea, USA, Britain, China, Germany, Indonesia, and Ireland.

Over the course of three weeks, these dedicated individuals worked closely with us to ensure a successful volunteer period. We began their visit with a community tour, providing them with an understanding of our neighborhood and the background of the children they would be working with. Their efforts were spread across six of our community partner schools: St. James Wisdom Preparatory School, Victoria Solid Foundation School, Unity Baptist School, Heaven Grace Academy, Jerremite International School, and Revere Basic School.

Our mission at Fafali is to empower the youth of Africa with education, training, and character – enabling them to act upon their future and enriching their local communities and Africa as a whole. Serving underprivileged children between the ages of 5-18 years, we are committed to creating a lasting impact through education and community development.

These volunteers assisted in our community partner schools, helping us collect valuable data on classroom activities to improve education in Ghana. They worked diligently to understand the needs of the schools and the children, contributing significantly to our mission.

As their time with us came to an end, the volunteers visited their assigned schools on Tuesday, June 25th, 2024, to bid farewell to the children and teachers they had come to know so well. Their departure was filled with heartfelt goodbyes and a shared hope of future collaboration.

“The dedication and energy brought by these young volunteers were truly inspiring. Their contributions have provided us with valuable insights that will help us improve our educational programs. We are incredibly grateful for their hard work and the positive impact they’ve made on our community,” said Senyo Sosu, Chief Executive Officer of the Fafali Organization.

“The volunteers’ presence and enthusiasm have been a wonderful addition to our school. They connected with our students and brought fresh perspectives that have enriched our educational environment. We deeply appreciate their efforts and the time they spent with us,” shared Jerry Akunnor, the Headteacher of Jerremite International School.

The volunteers themselves shared their reflections on the experience:

“Volunteering with Fafali has been a life-changing experience. I’ve learned so much from the children and the community. It’s been incredible to see the impact of our work and to be part of such a meaningful project,” said Zion Murry from the USA.

“This opportunity has opened my eyes to the challenges and the beauty of working in a different cultural context. The children’s enthusiasm and the warmth of the community have made this an unforgettable experience,” remarked Rachael Sowunmi  from the UK.
