On Friday, 20th September the Fafali Organization had the honor of welcoming a team of dedicated doulas from the Iowa Black Doula Collective to our Dzidefo Girls Club and Drum, Dance, & Dream Project. The Iowa Black Doula Collective, known for opening access to quality doula support and promoting evidence-based care for Black families in Iowa, paid a special visit to share their inspiring journey and expertise with the young girls in our programs.

This visit was made possible by our valued partners at Awuni Tours, who regularly connect international tourists with our after-school initiatives. Their dedication to bridging cultures and supporting local communities continues to make a profound impact, and we are deeply grateful for their ongoing support.

The visit began with a captivating cultural performance by the girls in the Drum, Dance, & Dream Project, celebrating their rich heritage and creativity through music and movement. The doulas expressed their admiration for the performance and later took part in a heartwarming discussion with the Dzidefo Girls Club, where they shared stories of resilience, empowerment, and the importance of education and self-confidence in young girls’ lives.

In addition to sharing their wisdom, the Iowa Black Doula Collective generously donated two (2) sets of period pants and 5 packs of menstrual pads to the girls in our Dzidefo Girls Club, helping to ensure that they have the resources needed to manage their menstrual health with dignity and ease. These donations will make a significant difference, reducing barriers to education and empowering the girls to focus on their studies without concern for their personal needs.

The doulas also toured our new 2-unit STEM & Literacy classroom complex, expressing their support for the ongoing educational opportunities we provide to underserved children in our community. The visit concluded with a discussion about the continued importance of empowering young girls through education, health, and mentorship.

The Fafali Organization is deeply grateful for this meaningful visit, the generosity of the Iowa Black Doula Collective, and the continued partnership with Awuni Tours. We look forward to future collaborations that will further enrich the lives of the children and communities we serve.

Thank you once again to Ebonie Bailey and her team for their generosity and support. We can’t wait to see what the future holds for this growing partnership!

Thank you for reading!
